For more FAQ’s please click here to visit our Fareharbor Online Booking Site FAQ’s Section

Please review the FAQs below. If you still have questions, please contact us for more information.

Per insurance requirements, all participants must:

  • Weigh 250 pounds or less
  • Everyone must be age 8 and up.
  • Participants ages 15 and under must also be accompanied on the tour by a parent or guardian (troop/scout leaders are considered guardians).

If you are age 18 and and older and do not wish to wear a helmet, you MUST SIGN A HELMET WAIVER

In the event we are not able to have a live Licensed Battlefield Guide on a tour, we had our guide go into the studio to record their tour as a Recorded Narrative.  The headlines of each tour will state Licensed Battlefield guide or Recorded Narrative.

1.5 Hour Tours are not offered daily.  Normally the Last ride of the day on Sundays and the 12:30 Tour during the School Week. If you can not find availability for the day you are looking for a 1.5 hour tour, it is probably because there are only 2 hour tours that day; you can click on the 2 Hr Horseback Tour to see available spots.

What if it rains?

Just like the brave soldiers who fought here, we ride rain or shine. However, in cases of extreme weather (lightening, excessive heat, etc.) that poses a health and safety threat to our guests, staff or animals, we may need to cancel the rides with little or no notice.

• When we do need to cancel due to weather we will attempt to contact you via email, text or phone call using the information you  provided at the time of purchase.

• We make every attempt to update our website to list any last minute cancellations.

• If we cancel your ride due to weather we will automatically refund your full tour price.

Are there any restrictions on who can ride?

Although we know people of all ages and sizes enjoy riding, insurance restrictions require us to impose the following limitations:

  • AGE: All riders must be age 8 and older
  • WEIGHT: All riders must weigh under 250 pounds
  • HEALTH: Reasonable good health and ability to mount a horse are required
  • ATTIRE: Close-toed shoes are required. Long pants are recommended

Can we ride double?

No. We are required to maintain a one horse to one rider ratio. Even though you may see some pictures like these, the current restrictions from our insurance carrier is that no one may ride double.

Do I need to know how to ride?

Not at all.  There is no experience necessary. This ride is appropriate for novice riders or experienced ones.

Do I need to wear a helmet?

Helmets are mandatory safety equipment for all riders ages 8 to 17.

  • Riders over the age of 18 may sign a waiver if they do not wish to wear a helmet.
  • Helmets are provided by Confederate Trails of Gettysburg.
  • All riders are required to complete an insurance waiver form prior to the start of their ride. You can do this online by clicking the Sign of Waiver tab at the bottom of your screen.
  • You DO NOT have to print your waiver, it is electronically submitted to us via Smartwaiver.
  • If you are age 18 and and older and do not wish to wear a helmet, you MUST ALSO SIGN A HELMET WAIVER

Does someone ride with us?

OF COURSE! Our staff are all experienced riders and accompany you on the trail. For full rides of 15 guests, there is a minimum of 3 of our staff outriders on the trail with you, along with the Licensed Battlefield Guide. There is no place else we would rather be than on horseback in Gettysburg. For those guests that are age 15 and below, you must be accompanied by an adult or guardian (scout troop leaders are considered guardians).

Is it appropriate to tip the outriders?

YES. We work very hard to provide exceptional service to our guests; our staff work several hours before and after tours.  Tipping is not expected or required, but it is certainly appreciated.

What should I wear?

Close-toed shoes are required to ride. We suggest log pants.
